This really is a wonderful piece, so endearing and intriguing all at the same time. The character is at first so innocent looking. She has such peaceful features and is posed almost childlike so as to endear no doubt. This is a wonderful start to the confluence of themes and is attested to by means of quite sublte additions such as the ethereal motes that throw their light upon her, and those others dotted around the picture. This jovial imagery works so wonderfully with the colour scheme. The greens are dark however they are tinted such as I feel implies an ethereal light, in concordance with the visible light source. Her clothing is even in line with this theme with slight attire which at the same time is devoid of romantic, or lascivious insinuation. Thematically tinted as it were by it's muted dashes of pink and bright green. When considering this it thus fascinates me how well it's been married with the theme of awe inspiring vastness. The lights are minute and yet powerful which implies to me a great light far away, if they were closer they wouldn't seem so chunky as they do. The lower half of the picture is not only dark as is the piece's overtones, but brings a distinct diffusion of colour. This passifies it as far as grabbing attention by fading it into the background so well. Lastly is the incisive streak of firey red. It fits perfectly into the tones of the lower third of the picture however seems so incongruent with the angelically lit scene. Thus it however brings so earthy a set of tones that it acts almost as a link to the rest of the image. Affording us a chance to be drawn into the picture empathetically which works so well with her innocent features. It humanizes her so as to allow us a smidge empathy whilst still implying such absolute purity on the character's part. This overall theme seems to be that of the night sky. There's such beauty and charm there in the vast blackness punctuated by twinkling motes, that one simply cannot feel fearful of it's grandure as one does of a great volcano. It's a truly beautiful scene, and this piece is so reminiscent of it in it's purity, charm, and divinity that it strikes wonder into my heart.
